"True communication is communion.
The realization of oneself which is love."
Echart Tolle
Animal communication is a communion with the soul of another species where thoughts, feelings and emotions are exchanged telepathically.
The first time I heard animals was on a Sunday afternoon. I was just walking through the quiet rooms of my house, focused on finding a pencil, when a voice resounded in my mind. “Look out !! I’m down here!” I couldn’t believe my ears! I looked down. My cat Bubby was stretched out gracefully in from of my toes glaring at me with no intentions of moving.
If I could hear Bubby’s thoughts so clearly, could he hear mine? I experimented with my cats with amazing results. Then one day I experimented with a llama at the Wild life Waystation. Mentally I asked Tequila what he liked to eat. Immediately he walked away from the crowd of llamas, right over to me, and I heard, “carrots.” The next day Tequila’s eyes lit up when he saw me. I handed him the carrots and promised him I would return with more. The next day I showed up empty handed. When Tequila realized I hadn’t kept my word he looked me square in the eyes and spit in my face! After a few more unforgettable experiences with animals I realized that telepathic communication is not only possible, but that animals are communicating to us all the time, and when we do not hear them they try to get through to us in some other way.
Animals think in pictures and see the images behind our thoughts and words. This is why your dog is waiting by your front door before you even leave the office. Miles away, your animal has ‘read’ your mind. S/he sees the image of home as soon as the thought - form of home enters your mind.
The language of animals is holistic, transcending words, encompassing emotion, intention, feelings and intuition as well as pictures. Often information is absorbed on all these levels simultaneously. Therefore an image alone can hold an entire story.
An animal communicator receives the story from your animal and interprets their thoughts into words for you.
We can listen with an open heart and trust the thoughts, images and feelings we receive from our animals. First we must quiet our mind.
Our animals have an innate advantage over us. Their mind is uncluttered. They are very much centered, focused and present most of the time. We, on the other paw, process thousands of thoughts a minute. Whew! Pretty hard to ‘hear’ their silent language with a mind, as Buddhists say, running like a wild horse.
Meditation helps us to receive. It relaxes our body and breath which then slows down the chatter in our mind. The more one meditates the more quiet our mind becomes. More importantly, meditation helps to keep our mind focused in the present moment, where the animals reside, making the telepathic exchange clear and immediate. All of us have the ability to communicate with animals. It just takes practice. and believing that animals are absolutely equal to us.
Thoughts are energy. Energy can be sent and received miles away. There are no boundaries. I believe years of visual art and meditation set the foundation for the skills I have today. I have learned to sit long periods in silence and focused attention. In order to join with another being’s mind I connect with a presence much greater than myself (I imagine my consciousness rising up and out through the crown chakra). Then I am able to connect with the animal through the heart chakra. I stay present and relaxed to hear thoughts and see images (which seem to appear just above my physical eyes at the brow chakra,) and I validate my findings with physical sensations felt just above the navel (the solar plexus or third chakra.)
When we step out of the way and drop our judgments and beliefs about animals we open to receive on many levels.

"Animals prefer to be as unbusy as possible. It's not that they just want to lie around and relax. They forget body-consciousness, self consciousness, and enter into Divine contemplation."
Adi Da Samraj
Our animals are teachers, showing us how to slow down and be more mindful. They teach us to forgive, how to live in the state of joy and how to love unconditionally, without attachment or judgment. Animals teach us about death and impermanence. To be present and to live in the moment. Communicating with animals enables us to experience the depth of their thoughts and feelings. I have found that all life is aware and willing to communicate with us, and that all beings, even the tiniest insects, wish and deserve to be free from suffering. Our lives are not separate, but woven together in a web of karma. Our choices effect others. We tend to pay more attention to our thoughts and actions as we notice our negativity, anger, fear and stress effecting our animal’s behavior and health as well as our own. Sometimes animals reflect our emotional imbalances back to us. If we observe this interplay with honesty we can grow and change for the better. When we love and accept ourselves as much as our animals love and accept us our hearts will open to others, and we can begin to cherish all life as much as we cherish our own. Animal communication is the groundwork that makes communication with all life possible.
